This hoodie honors James Baldwin’s lifelong project: reminding Black people that dignity is not something granted by the world but something inherited, carried, and claimed. The artwork crowns two figures in a futuristic, regal cityscape, merging ancestral memory with Afrofuturist possibility. The Eye of Horus symbols on each sleeve extend that lineage even further back, tying Baldwin’s words to ancient traditions of protection, sovereignty, and spiritual sight. The quote—“Your crown has been bought and paid for. All you have to do is put it on.”—becomes the garment’s heartbeat. It is Baldwin at his clearest: naming the truth that liberation begins with self-recognition, that worth is not earned through suffering, and that the world’s attempts to diminish Black brilliance cannot undo what history, struggle, and ancestry have already secured.
